When you are packing for a move, it always seems that you have more items than you initially think.

Visualize the size of a storage space by comparing it to spaces that you know, such as a walk-in closet, a bedroom, or a garage space. For instance, if you can fill your bedroom with your belongings, you probably will not need larger than a 10×10 space.

Most of our ceiling heights are 8 feet or higher. You can significantly save space by stacking your belongings, with heavier items on the bottom, and lighter items on top.

Have the proper packing materials. Either sturdy cardboard moving boxes, or ideally see through plastic storage containers are best to both store your items, as well as make them easily identifiable when you need to access them. Plastic containers are by far the best for stacking in your units as well.

You may want to number your boxes or containers and keep a separate inventory worksheet that itemizes all of the items contained in each box. You may want to label the containers from each room in your house or apartment that it belongs, or label containers based upon their contents, such as winter or summer clothing.

You will want to pack each box completely, and make sure that the contents are stable inside, especially if you will be stacking your belongings in a unit.

You will want to protect breakable or fragile items by using packing papers, or bubble wrap around the items.

You will want to wrap each item separately, and make sure that the containers are not packed too tightly. If others will be helping you move, or accessing your storage unit, you will want to make sure that the containers are labeled, “Fragile”. If you will be stacking your containers, you may want to ensure that these fragile items get placed on the top of your stacking containers.

You may want to put either cardboard or wooden pallets on the floor of your storage unit for some items, as this allows more air flow around all of your items during its time in storage. A representative from The Exeter Storage Depot will be happy to arrange for pallets for you to use.

It is usually best to stack your appliances in the rear of the storage space if you do not plan on accessing them during your use of your unit.

If possible, you may want to leave an aisle in the middle of your unit, so that you can easily access all of your items during your use of your unit. It is also helpful to make sure that any labels are facing such that you can easily read them in the event you need to access any items.

All units at The Exeter Storage Depot have been efficiently designed with entry and exit lanes that allow you to access all units without ever having to back a truck or vehicle up. Once unloaded, you can simply pull straight ahead and exit out onto any of the exit lanes at the facility.

The Exeter Storage Depot is fully lit in the evening hours with automated lighting that comes on from dusk to dawn on the exterior of all buildings, as well as the entryways to the facility.

All interior access units have well lit hallways and entryways that allows for convenient, safe, access to any and all interior units, again any time of the day.

During the winter months, the facility is plowed immediately following snowstorms with plows and snowblowers to ensure access to all drive-up units as well as all entryways to the interior access units.

You are the only one who has access to your storage space, and only you have either the key or the combination to the lock you place on your unit. You are responsible to keep your unit locked.

Upon leasing your unit, you will be provided with a copy of your storage lease agreement. We try to keep our business operations as informal and easy as possible for our customers. We ask that you forward a check to the address noted on your lease agreement to The Exeter Storage Depot by the first of each month. If it is more convenient, a Customer Drop Box is located at the facility to leave checks for your unit as well.
